MY FAVOURITE READS FROM THE WEEK

Happy Friday friends – the last before Christmas, can you believe it?! It’s also the last day of school/ work for everyone here in the Mercer house before we settle into a much needed Christmas break. We’re all looking forward to filling our days with all sorts of holiday fun together – a bit of skiing, perhaps a Christmas movie (or ten) and a whole lot of Christmas baking that we can’t wait to share with family, friends and neighbours (see our holiday baking list here)!

In last week’s Weekend Reading post, I mentioned our goal to get the sofa area all set up down in our newly finished basement before Christmas. It felt really lofty at the time, but Brady whizzed through the last few things we needed to get finished up and by Saturday morning, we were pushing a couch down the stairs (and trying not to bang up our freshly painted walls too much in the process!). We had our little family room space all set up just a few hours later and that evening, we enjoyed our first family movie all snuggled up in our new basement.

The powder room also saw a ton of progress this weekend with the sink, toilet and trim work all installed on Sunday. In one short weekend, our basement went from a wide open disaster of a space to a cozy little family room with a functioning bathroom beside it to boot! *If you’re curious about any of these finishings you can find links to it all in my design plans here.*

We’ve still got a few finishing touches left – patching & painting the trim work in the powder room, installing one last cabinet and a toe kick on the wet bar and, over the Christmas break, Brady plans to take on a DIY keg-orator, which he’s pretty stoked about – but, things are feeling pretty cozy down here and we’re both SO thrilled to see it all finally coming together just in time for Christmas!
