Happy Friday!!! It’s our last before school starts around here actually. Have your kiddos gone back yet? Carson tells me he isn’t ready to head back to school, but I think on some level (maybe waaaaaay down), he’s excited. Even if just to meet his teacher and catch up with his friends.
While I’m not sure I’m ready for summer to end yet either, I have to say that I think getting back into some routine around here will probably be a good thing – I’m picturing many days of demo and painting and decorating ahead. I think getting started with things will really help us to feel a little more settled here.

While we haven’t really dug into any of the bigger projects just yet, I just couldn’t resist tackling that purple door. I’ve been chipping away at it (quite literally) for more than a week now. I totally underestimated how long stripping that purple paint would take and I definitely questioned whether it was worth all that time and effort more than a few times – I mean obviously that purple had to go, but painting over it really would have been SO much easier! But then, Carson came across this photo of Brady and I in an old scrapbook, standing in front of it when we were in the eleventh grade (somehow that was 21 years ago!), and I was reminded of just how big that beautiful wood door was a part of this old house – at least for those of us that walked through it so many times over the years. And so, it looks as though the paint stripping, sanding and staining saga will continue for a while yet. I’m really hoping that I’ll have the old paint completely gone by the end of the weekend and the door will be ready for some stain next week. I’ll try to share some updates along the way over on Instagram, so be sure to follow along with my stories there if you’re curious.
On the blog this week…

And now, here are my favourite reads from the week…

Really loved scrolling this collection of contrast trim inspo.
This was such an interesting take on the pros and cons of off white/ light colour cabinets.
Speaking of pros and cons, this was a great read about things to consider when buying antiques.
