Why we’ve chosen brass door knobs throughout our home and some of our favourite brass door knob options.

The truth is, I’ve had door knobs on the brain for far too long. It all started last Fall for me, when just a few weeks after moving into this new/old house of ours, I began contemplating the ideas of switching up our old 90’s style brass door handles.
Originally, I’d just planned to switch them all out as we changed out our doors and updated all of our trim work throughout the house, but it turned out the old levers were in pretty rough shape and even more, I knew it would be a simple way to update the look of our doors right away, without having to wait for them to all be swapped out. After all, we’d made that simple switch in our old house and, paired with a coat of paint, it completely changed the look of our old doors (read more about that here).
And so, I found myself window shopping all the options. I was instantly drawn to the polished nickel door knobs, but quickly talked myself out of it when I remembered how much a struggled with the finger prints on our old kitchen cabinet knobs (polished metals are NOT very forgiving when it comes to finger prints and you can imagine there would like be a lot of those on a door knob!). Black would have been an easy choice – we’d used black door knobs all throughout our old house and I still love the classic look of them. I found myself drawn to so many beautiful options that I couldn’t seem to commit to just one (a growing theme for us since starting renovations on this house). And so, I decided to just hold off on it for now – after all, we had SO many other decisions to make that were far more pressing (like our hardwood floors!).
Fast forward to last week when I spontaneously decided to paint a few doors around our main floor. Suddenly, those tired old brass levers were standing out more than ever. I mean, what was the point of updating the paint colour if I wasn’t going to follow through with the hardware? So, back to door knob shopping I went. Like all the whole house decisions I’ve been struggling with lately, committing to our future door knobs throughout the entire house felt big, but I was bound and determined to start making some decisions around here.
I searched through all the inspiration photos I could find online and, while I loved the look of many different finishes, it didn’t take me long to realize that what my heart really wanted, were unlacquered brass door knobs.
There’s something so timeless and classic about brass, especially a brass that has a bit of tarnish and character to it. Nothing adds more vintage charm or character than a touch of tarnished brass. I came into this house knowing it was a finish I was hoping to use throughout to really bring out the character & charm of this beautiful tudor style home.
I shopped around for all of the prettiest solid brass door knobs out there and today, I’m sharing all of my favourites with you. If you are on the hunt for some new door knobs around your home, I hope that you find some inspiration linked up below.

In the end, I decided to go with these glass knobs with black rosette on our glass office doors, the same glass knobs, but with an antique brass rosette on the glass doors to our study, and these timeless brass door knobs throughout the rest of our home. While I’m still struggling to commit to such a permanent design decision (solid brass door knobs aren’t cheap), I’m taking a leap of faith here, hoping that staying true to my overall design ideas for this house will mean I’ll still love these beautiful door knobs for years to come.
Wishing you SUCH a lovely day my friends!
