Friends! I’ve got SUCH a fun post to share today…
Every online shopper out there (which is pretty much everyone, ever right?!) is familiar with those perfectly styled product photos of whatever it is they happen to be shopping for. I mean there would be no online shopping with out them. But, have you ever wondered what actually goes into styling those photos?
I mean what does it really look like behind the scenes of a professional product photo shoot?
Well, a few short months ago the fabulous folks at The Brick invited me to their studio to help style the Gena Sectional Sofa in a real life, professional photo shoot.
Y’all, this was such a dream assignment!
I mean not only did I get to spend a whole day shopping for all of the pretty props we’d need to style not one, but three separate looks, but I also got to spend a day in studio with a super fun crew of people doing what I love best – decorating!
Obviously, when you’re shopping online, or even just researching for a future purchase, those product photos play a pretty important role in your decision making. Not only do they need to be accurate in their depiction, but they need to be enticing – I mean this is the ultimate in judging a book by it’s cover.
And let me tell you, there is SO much that goes into styling and photographing each one of those product photos.
And I can’t wait to tell you all about it my friends!
So, it all started with this beautiful Gena 2-Piece Sectional and matching ottoman…
The folks at The Brick asked me to style an entire space around it, so I shopped their website for furniture pieces that I thought would match the sophisticated, yet cozy look of that sofa. I landed on this beautiful Sante Fe Rusticos Bookcase and the Kona Grove Chairside Table to round out the room.
With the furniture all picked out, it was time to shop accessories and, I’ll tell ya with three separate looks to bring into the space (Fall, Winter + Christmas), I had A LOT of shopping to do! I spent an entire day running all around the city and by the end of it all, every inch of my car was filled with decor.
Now, I’m not going to lie, I was stressed out for days leading up to the actual shoot, worrying about every little thing. Did I get everything I might need? Did I order the right accent furniture to round out the space? How rushed would I be to create + style each look? Styling a space is such a process of trial and error, how strange was it going to be having people watching every move I made as I brought each look together? I mean, styling a space in my home is one thing, but this was my first time styling for anyone else – knowing the importance of these product photos, I was so honoured and excited that the folks at The Brick had invited me in to help style this set, but holy smokes was I ever nervous.
When I arrived at the studio on the day of the shoot, I was absolutely blown away by the set they’d created! The fantastic photography team had all of that gorgeous furniture and this perfect industrial style lamp all set up just as I’d hoped…
Which meant I could get straight to work styling the set. First up were all things Fall, which meant cozy textures, a few pumpkins and just a bit of plaid of course…
Things on the set were looking so perfectly cozy – here’s how those Fall photos turned out…
Next, we moved on to more of a holiday look with some colourful tartan, cozy furs and a touch of candlelight. Here’s how things were looking on set…
And the final photos…
And finally, I styled a cozy Winter look…
Which might just be my favourite of all…
Friends, I can’t tell you how neat it was to be a part of this process. Seeing my work on The Brick website – the furniture and decor I chose, and the styling I put into each look is just such a great feeling…
And it was just so much fun to spend the day with The Brick crew, learning the ropes and getting a behind the scenes look at a real life, professional product shoot!
