HELLO SUMMER!!! It feels like a lifetime since you last graced us with your presence, but I’m SO thrilled that you’ve finally decided to show your beautiful face!
I am beyond excited to FINALLY share with you all what I’ve got up my sleeves for the whole month of June! Just in time for summer, I’ve teemed up with two other fabulous blogs to bring you …
Through the the next four weeks, we’d love for you to follow along as we make over three outdoor spaces and take them from outdoor miss to outdoor bliss (is that too corny?)! Not only will you get a chance to peek in on our progress every Thursday, but you’ll have a whole month of DIY projects to check out along the way! I’m so looking forward to having you follow along with our journey!!!
With summer arriving and a dirt hill for a backyard at the moment, developing our deck (the only useable outdoor space we have) is pretty high on our priority list. We’d love to have a dining space to enjoy our meals outside – is there any better way to start your day than a sunny breakfast outdoors?
So, to get started I thought I’d share my plans for the space.
First of all, here’s what we’re starting with:
We’ve got ourselves what most would call a “blank canvas” to start with – no furniture, plants, accessories … absolutely nothing (well, aside from the BBQ, which will be finding a new home in our backyard & those wooden rocking chairs, which belong on our front porch).
What we do have are some floor boards in pretty rough shape and some railings that have seen better days – with only a few short years under it’s belt, this deck is clearly looking about ten times its age. 🙁 Ultimately, we’re hoping to cover it with some sort of solid surface to prevent the pine needles from getting stuck in the cracks (which by the way, seem to shed from the trees at an amazingly fast rate!). So, while we research our options for next summer, we’ll throw down a pretty rug in the mean time to hide as much as we can.
What I do love about the space are having doors into our dining area AND our living room!
It’s also neat that you can peek into our office and even see the front door!
These pot lights are a great design feature as well.
But more than anything else, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our view!
So, now that you know what I have to work with, here’s a peek at what I’m dreaming up for the space:
As I mentioned before, we’re in desperate need of a rug to cover our unsightly deck boards, plus I’ve always wanted a rug outside (the Monica Geller in me might regret this)! I’m SO IN LOVE with that Pottery Barn Table, but definitely not the $1700 price tag (make that $2700 with the two benches) … I can’t wait to show you how I got the look for SO MUCH LESS! We don’t have a single dish that is actually meant to go outdoors, so we’ll be needing a few of those I think. And then who could forget the accessories?! I can’t wait to add in some colourful cushions and table linens to keep the space feeling fun.
I am SO VERY excited to make an outdoor space for our family to enjoy the warm summer days in and I CANNOT wait to see how it all comes together!!!
Follow along with us ALL as we do a bit of shopping and a whole lot of DIY’ing to completely transform our outdoor spaces!!!

Thank you Tori!!! We LOVE our view, but the deck could definitely use some work – I can’t wait to FINALLY have a dining table outside!!! Super excited to have connected with you through Link’n Blogs and I can’t wait to follow along with your adventures too!
I would LOVE to have an outside area like that! We are going to be moving as soon as we sell our house and find a place. So probably a while from now – lol…. but I would LOVE if we had something like that to enjoy. Can’t wait to see the pictures! And yes, I’m super excited we connected on there too! Talk to you soon.
That definitely is a beautiful view!!!
The boards on our deck need some work too. We stained them a few years ago and now you can’t even tell which is oh so frustrating!
Thanks Tshanina!
It is frustrating!!! We’re definitely looking into some more low maintenance options for next summer!
How exciting to decorate your outdoor room! It looks like you have a great vision. Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. I hope you will come back and share your progess along the way. Have a great weekend!
