Good morning friends!
Boy, have I got some fun news to share with y’all this morning…
You see, I’ve met someone – a super sweet gal with a lovely little blog. It’s that classic story of new blogger emails seasoned veteran (that’s me in this story in case you hadn’t guessed!) with a question, seasoned veteran somehow finds a spare minute to actually take a peek at new blogger’s beautiful blog (see, if finding a spare minute isn’t fate, I don’t know what is!). And, instantly falls in love with this lovely new blog! Even better, seasoned blogger and rookie blogger seem to hit it off so well that seasoned blogger can’t help but invite this sweet rookie blogger to become a regular contributor on her old blog.
And so, here we are…
I can’t tell y’all how excited I am to introduce my sweet friend Sarah from Making Joy and Pretty Things! She’ll be popping in the third Wednesday of each month to share something wonderful with y’all and, I just know, y’all are going to love her just as much as I do!
Hello, everyone!! My name is Sarah from Making Joy and Pretty Things where I write about creating joy and a beautiful home in this crazy life.
I cannot even begin to describe how excited I am to be making my first guest post on Making it in the Mountains!! Kristi is crazy talented and one of my absolute favorite bloggers and I’m honored (and kinda nervous!!) to be given this opportunity.
Well, just like seemingly everyone else, I’ve been bit by the farmhouse style bug. If I could move to Waco, TX and have Fixer Upper redo my home, girl, I’d be on the next flight!!
Since that isn’t happening, I’m always looking for ways to bring the farmhouse style into my home. What I love most about farmhouse style is the incorporation of greenery and floral accents into the design. There’s something so calming and peaceful about a simple white pot overflowing with ivy, don’t you think?
That was my motivation for this Simple Farmhouse Wreath. You guys, I’m in love!
I dragged took the kiddos to my local Michaels store. When my oldest little boy rolls his eyes and groans when I say “quick stop at Michaels”, you know I have a problem. Tell me I’m not the only one!
You guys, if I didn’t have to take kids into the store and shop at a slight jog to avoid an inevitable meltdown, it could be dangerous how much I would buy there. I’m pretty sure they already recognize me, and mini-me (my 16 month old) who commonly litters their floor with Cheerios. Oops 🙂
Anyway…on one of these semi-frequent trips, I picked up a grapevine wreath. I love how it’s a blank canvas. Even if you don’t like my wreath, you can make your own so easily with a grapevine wreath and whatever accents you want.
I knew I wanted to find simple greenery there as well to make the wreath. Plus, all florals were 40% off!
I hit the jackpot!! I mean, this was exactly was I was looking for. I ended up getting two “bushes”, but only needed one to complete the whole wreath.
I started by picking the greenery off of the stems. I hired my 3.5 year old to complete this; he was thrilled!
Using my hot glue gun, I applied a glob on the end of a green leafy piece, leaving the pieces that had small white flowers for the end.
The grapevine has holes throughout that make it easy to tuck the greenery in. On the longer pieces that may have not stayed against the wreath, I added a small glob of glue at the other end so that it was adhered to the grapevine in two separate places.
{Ignore that one white flower piece already glued in. My son insisted that one needed to go there, so there it went 🙂 }
I continued filling in around the grapevine until I only had white flower pieces left. I put all the pieces in the same direction so that the wreath flowed together.
I wish I could give you more direction on this but I just kind of placed pieces where I thought they looked best. On the plus side, every wreath will look different and unique!
Here’s the wreath before white flowers:
Using the same method I used for the leafy pieces, I placed the white flowers as evenly spaced out as I could. There was absolutely no measuring involved or any precise science. Just what I thought looked even.
Ahhh! I love it! So sweet and simple and I love how it looks like real flowers.
I didn’t want anything to take away from the simplicity of the wreath, so I grabbed the remainder of my twine (I ran out?? better go to Michaels!!) to hang it.
I set the wreath on my door and measured where I wanted it to lie. I wrapped the twine once around the wreath, and tied a knot in the back. I used my husband’s arm to represent the top of the door frame and wrapped the twine around the wreath, up around his arm, and back until I ran out of twine. The end of the twine was tied behind the wreath as well.
Now, this is really embarrassing. But, you guys, this is how we hang wreaths that I make.
We use gorilla tape {yes, you read that right}. Secure one piece in the top loop to the top of the door frame and a second piece over top.
Hey, it works!! 😉
And that’s it, folks! Simple, right? I hope you love it as much as I do.
Again, I want to give a HUGE shout out to Kristi for answering all my blogging questions, offering me endless awesome advice, and giving me this AMAZING opportunity.
You can read more about me, my crazy life, and my quest to make joy and pretty things on my blog. If you’re looking for more DIYs like this, I have a whole board on Pinterest dedicated to fixer upper and farmhouse style!
