I am absolutely thrilled & honored to be taking part in this fabulous Back to School Blog Hop with some VERY talented ladies!!! If you’re looking for some back to school inspiration, we’ve definitely got you covered!
Today I’m sharing a super cute way to help keep your life organized through the week …
I wanted to create a quick and easy way to organize all of those loose papers and things that need to get done through the week. SO, inspired by my DIY Art Hanger I made in the Spring, I decided to create a weekly calendar board to keep track of it all. You won’t believe how simple this project was to make!
I started with some scrap 1×6 wood I found for free from a house that is being built just down the street from us. If you don’t have a construction zone down the street (consider yourself lucky!), you can always just pop over to the hardware store to pick up some brand new wood. The board I found was approximately 4 feet long, which I thought would work perfectly just the way it was (talk about meant to be!).
It was already stained a dark walnut colour, but since I was hoping for something lighter, I thought this might be a perfect chance to finally try my hand at whitewashing. Truth be told, I was really expecting to make a big mess of things and thought I’d end up turning it over to use the other side, but I was pleasantly surprised at how quick and easy it was. I dipped my brush into some white paint (I chose to use some white chalk paint that I had on hand already) grabbing just a small amount of paint on the tips of the bristles. I then swiped across some scrap cardboard I had lying around a few times to get rid of any excess paint. I VERY lightly brushed the paint over the wood taking care to not overload it with white, but still trying to blend things together a bit. I think this whole process took about 2 minutes. Such a quick way to add a ton of character to any project! I’ll definitely be trying this again!!!
Now that my background was lightened up a bit, it was time attach the hardware. I simply nailed two picture hooks on either end of the back making sure that they were level with one another.
I then screwed two eye hooks smack dab in the middle of either end on the front – I found it easier to pre-drill these just to make sure that they went in nice and straight. Finally I threaded some picture hanging wire through the eye hooks and wound the ends tightly around one another to secure it making a straight line between the hooks.
Once my board was made, I moved onto the calendar part of the project and began my very first experience working with washi tape. Let me tell you, it was {love} at first stick! With it’s light weight and easy maneuverability, this stuff was incredibly simple to work with and oh so pretty to look at! With a just a little washi tape on either side of some plain old clothes pins, I had myself some lovely little clips! The final touch was writing the day of the week on each one with a gold Sharpie.
I absolutely {adore} the shabby-chic look I found in pairing these sweet little calendar clips with that rustic, whitewashed board!
I really think this will be SUCH a perfect way to keep track of what I need to do each week and when! How do you keep track of your to-do list? Do you think you could put one of these to good use in your home?
Wishing you all SUCH a lovely day!

Wow you are so organized thanks for sharing! When I had school-age kids we had a calendar on the fridge and each one of us was a different color marker. That way they could each look on the calendar and know what they had to do that day and my husband and I could divide and conquer!
