Handmade wood signs are a simple, beautiful and relatively inexpensive way to decorate a large wall space. Today I’m sharing my favourite small business that make the most lovely handmade wood sign art.
Some of the most asked about items in our home are the handmade wood signs we have hanging all around the house. In fact, I’ve had a few friends on Instagram and visitors on YouTube request a tour of them all, wanting me to share all of the wood sign art we have, where I found them and where I’ve chosen to hang them. Today’s post has been a long time coming!
Handmade wood signs have long been a favourite around our house. I think I’m drawn to the simplicity of them, the way they can fill a large wall space without a lot of visual clutter.
I love how personal they can feel, giving me the ability to share words on our walls that are truly meaningful to our family. Between the rustic wood frames and the beautiful words printed within them, I think they are such a great way to bring some warmth to any space!
Nearly every room in our home has a lovely wood sign or two hanging within it and today, I’m so excited to finally take you on a tour of them all, sharing where I found each one and where I put it to work in our home.
How to decorate with handmade wood signs
Whether it’s by friends that visit our home, or folks that see it on the blog or Instagram, I always get asked about this beautiful “gather” sign hanging in our dining area.
Our front living room also has a couple of signs too. These were actually custom made for us by a friend from our home town (she doesn’t have an online shop, but you can get in touch with her through her beautiful Instagram account). I love the simplicity of them and the sayings are so meaningful for us.
Down the hallway to our mudroom and back family room, you’ll notice a few more signs.
I used to have a lovely “what a wonderful life” sign hanging in our hallway, but I recently switched it our for a collection of square photos framed in wood. These were also made by my friend Lindsay of Oak + Pine Signs (her sister actually took these photos of us! #smalltownlife). I love the warmth that the colours and wood bring to this wall space and especially love that they have a matte finish, making it easy to see the photos from every angle.
One of the most asked about signs in our home hangs in the back family room. This sign reading “family is not an important thing it’s everything“ is one of my most pinned images on pinterest and I don’t think there’s ever been a time that I’ve shared it that someone hasn’t asked where I got it. This huge sign was the perfect way to fill a large wall space and I’ve always loved the way those hanging lanterns on wall hooks frame it so beautifully.
The signs continue upstairs as well. This sign at the top of our stairs was custom made by another talented friend. She no longer sells pre-made signs, but she is a great resource if you’ve ever wanted to try making your own.
Unfortunately the adorable rustic sign in our bathroom is no longer for sale, but there are a few other cute options available from the same shop.
A few more handmade wood signs hang in our master bedroom. This “grateful” sign is another of my most asked about wood signs and is definitely one of my favourites in our home. I love looking up at this reminder of gratitude as I crawl into bed each night.
We also have a couple other beautiful signs stacked over the chair beside our bed.
Carson’s bedroom is another treasure trove of handmade wood signs.
And finally, Carson’s playroom features this fun gallery wall of wood signs, which make for the perfect rustic touch above his little desk.
