Couldn’t resist adding a little green to the fee

Couldn’t resist adding a little green to the feed today with this throwback to Carson’s old room. This room is still one of our all time favourites - our first real jump into working with some bold colour. Looking back at this space makes me feel even more excited to bring more of these bold colours into our new home! What about you - do you tend to stick to neutrals in your home or do you like to play around with a bit (or a lot) of colour too?

It may not look a whole lot different to you, but we spent some time switching out a few of our light switches this past weekend and we are definitely noticing a big difference around here already! Not only are we swapping out the “fancy” switch covers that were scattered around the house (swipe to see what I’m talking about here), but even more impactful for us, we’re jumping on board the smart home train with these brilliant little switches. We’ve been having a ton of fun exploring all of the different things these little switches can do - programming our exterior lights to come on as the sun sets, and our kitchen lights to pop on in the morning before I head down to make my coffee. We’ve even set up some “scenes” like having the mud room lights turn on automatically as we come home at night, or dimming all of the living room lights to curl up for a movie night. It’s been a total game changer for us already and we’re already planning out more ways we can add some smart automation to our home (blinds are next on our list).

Well my friends, I painted out these doors last week on a whim, but the truth is, I’m not sure I love it. Maybe it’s the fact that the casing around it doesn’t match or maybe it’s just the wrong colour all together. Either way, I’m going to sit with it for a bit here and see what other ideas come up. With some major renovations planned for this space down the road, I figure it’s the perfect chance to try out all the ideas first to see what will stick. What do you think? Any other ideas for these doors to share?

Excited to give these doors a bit of an update wit

Excited to give these doors a bit of an update with a quick coat of paint and some new brass hardware. I’ve been toying around with the idea of trying a rich brown colour instead of the white - probably the same colour we used in our office, #chocolatevelvet from @benjaminmoore (swipe to see it in the last photo). What do you think? Would you stick with our tried and true #cloudwhite or warm things up even more with a rich, chocolatey brown?

Who knew picking doorknobs would be such a head-scratcher! We’re planning to go with unlacquered brass knobs throughout the house, but debating about changing things up on these two sets of oak doors on our main floor - I thought a black rosette would stand out a bit more than the brass against the oak and it would also give us an easy way to tie in the black levers we have on all of the exterior doors around our main floor. On top of that, just to make things extra special, I thought maybe I’d try a glass knob with it too! What do you think? Would you change up the knobs on theses oak doors? It can be so easy sometimes to get caught up in al

It can be so easy sometimes to get caught up in all the things in our days that aren’t quite where we want them to be. Whether it’s our home, our careers, or maybe even a part of ourselves that we deem to be less than it should be, we come across so many of these little reminders of imperfection through our days, it’s surprising how quickly they can start to add up.

But, this little square of sunshine stopped me in my tracks this morning. Even with the missing baseboards and stained carpet (not to mention the fact that we’re still sleeping in this temporary bedroom space more than 6 months after moving in), I just couldn’t help but stop and appreciate the warmth and beauty of this little moment this morning. While I’m excited to get into our new, totally renovated bedroom, to work our way through all the house renos really, it’s little moments like this that remind me to make sure I’m not just living for that finish line - after all, it’ll just keep moving further along with us anyway. Life is about the journey my friends. ♥️
