Two Wood Crates Turned Rustic Bedside Table
I am unbelievably excited to be teaming up with nine other crazy talented ladies to bring you The Great Crate Challenge!!!
One of my very favorite parts about DIY’ing is how your own needs and style shine through each and every project. I just find it so amazing that different people can start out with the same inspiration & foundations for a project, but end up with something totally unique in the end! Prepare yourselves people because today, we’re going to share this x10! That’s right, ten fabulous bloggers are going to show you how they transformed the same simple wooden crate from Michaels into something completely their own! So, not only am dying to share what I created today, but I cannot wait to see what my bloggy friends came up with too!!!
With our Kitchen table and chairs out of the way, I can FINALLY start work on a big boy room for our not so little guy! All through the month of September (and likely a month or two beyond), the Mercers will be hard at work transforming our empty spare room into an old rustic cabin for Carson. I’ve got loads of crafting, DIY’s and of course shopping planned (I’ll chat more about that next week) and I am just itching to get going with things! Today, I’m officially kicking things off with this DIY Bedside Table!
You are not going to believe how simple this was to make!
I started with these 2 wooden crates from Michaels, which I was able to score for 40% off with their famous coupons!
After slapping on a quick coat of Minwax’s Driftwood Stain, I painted a very light coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Antibes Green onto the inside of each crate. I decided to use a disposable foam brush rather than my usual natural bristled brush because I thought it would do a better job of not pushing any paint between the boards and it totally did the trick. Though the outsides of these crates are quite smooth, the insides were a much rougher texture, which made for a perfect rustic, chippy paint look.
Once everything was dry my hubs, Brady, simply used some construction adhesive (left over from my Aqua Chalkboard Calendar) to fasten the two crates together. He clamped them tightly overnight and by morning, the two had become one! Finally, he screwed in some 2″ caster wheels to all for corners of the bottom and voila, our rustic bedside table was complete!
I am SO excited to FINALLY be starting work on Carson’s big boy room! This rustic bedside table is going to fit in perfectly with the old cabin theme I’ve been planning!!!
*UPDATE: Check how I finally put this table to work (nearly one year later!) in Carson’s Rustic Boy’s Bedroom makeover!*
And don’t miss the other DIY projects we put together for this Rustic Boy Bedroom Makeover:
