Welcome back to week two of our Outdoor Makeover Challenge!
Just in case you missed out on all of the juicy details last week, here‘s a peek at what I’ve been dreaming up for the space. With a mountain of dirt for a yard at the moment and no other outdoor space, I couldn’t be more excited to be setting up our courtyard deck just in time for summer!
Brady and I have been hard at work on a top secret project behind the scenes for the last couple of weeks. If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have seen this sneak peek I shared while putting on the last coat of Polyurethane yesterday morning:
It all started with this GORGEOUS Pottery Barn Table for that I’ve been swooning over for ages!
Unfortunately, I couldn’t justify the\at $2700 price tag for a piece of furniture that will spend 3/4 of the year buried under snow no matter how stunning it was. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I stumbled across these plans on, you guessed it … Pinterest! Having given my newly handy husband a few easier projects to practice on along this DIY journey, I had no doubt that he could put together a stunning table of our very own (if only because I wanted it SO badly!), even if he wasn’t so sure. And I was right (which is usually the case!) – it turned out even more amazing than I had imagined!!!
I am SOOOOOO excited to FINALLY reveal our pride and joy!!!
I may have gone a little camera crazy, but I’m just SO IN LOVE!
*Click through the gallery that follows for even more pictures*
So how did we get the $2700 Pottery Barn look for less than $150? Well, we followed these amazing plans from Ana White to build the table and the benches. I won’t get into too much detail about the construction because I couldn’t possibly do a better job of explaining things than she did; however, we did make a few changes along the way to make it our own. Brady chose to change the cut of the table legs to better resemble the Pottery Barn Table. We also added the extra 1×4 platform to the bottom of the bench legs as we found them a bit short when we followed the original plans and, in the end, we liked how it helped tie everything together. Before Brady got it all put together, I stained everything with Minwax oil based stain in Special Walnut and put on 2 coats of Outdoor Polyurethane (3 on the top boards of the table and benches) to help protect it from the elements.
I am SO incredibly proud of Brady for creating this STUNNING table for us! I know our family and friends will enjoy so many fabulous meals around it for many summers to come!
I know this beauty will be nearly impossible to top, but I’ve got SO much more in store for our space, so be sure to follow along! And of course, you won’t want to miss our final reveal on June 26th (which just happens to be my birthday!) to see how it all comes together!!!
*UPDATE: See this Pottery Barn Inspired Table all dressed up in our finished space here!*
Now, I’m sure you are just as EXCITED as I am to see what Nicole at Meet the B’s has been up to on her lovely patio, so head on over to take a peek!
Be sure to follow along with us both so you don’t miss a thing!!!

Wishing you all a lovely day!

Jenna @ A Savory Feast says
I can’t believe how much cheaper it is to make this yourself. And it turned out AWESOME! My brother is pretty good at stuff like this so maybe I can convince him to help me make this for my next house.
Kristi says
I know! We could have NEVER justified spending $2700 for an outdoor table, so I was thrilled when I found those plans! If we can do it, anyone can do it 😉
Wendy @ www.mamasblogcentral.com says
Wow! Love it! Looks awesome!! Now if I can get my husband to make one that would be great.
I would love for you to share this at my T.G.I.F. Linky Party @ MamasBlogCentral.com 🙂 Have a great week!!

Wow!
I am impressed that turned out amazing!!!! We were going to knock off a PB table as well…one with a concrete top…but too little of time to do it this year, so we just borrowed my MIL table for this year. But you have me thinking hard about definitely doing this for next year. I may have to recreate something like this for my dining room though : )
Kristi says
Thanks Deb!!! I’m SO, SO happy with how it turned out! I am in LOVE with those concrete PB Tables – would so love to see how it turns out! Have a fabulous weekend!

Colleen Pastoor says
This is lovely! I’ve seen the ana white plans before- but love the changes you made… would love to see more details on how you did it 🙂
Kristi says
Thanks Colleen! The changes weren’t big ones, but they definitely made a difference. With the table, you may notice that the bottom 2×4 on each side was left straight rather than cut at 45 degrees as suggested in the plans. To the bench, we simply added 4 extra 1x4s to the bottoms to create the same raised up look as the table. I tried to share some pictures of the table and bench legs, but I can definitely dig a few more out for you when I get home (we’re out of town until Tuesday evening). Have a lovely weekend!!!

Emily says
this is amazing! You did an awesome job. And I agree, I live in Wisconsin and I can’t justify spending too much money on anything outdoors. I wish it was a year round kind of deal, but it is not.
Kristi says
Thanks Emily! It’s SO hard because you want to get the most out of your outdoor space while you can without spending a fortune on something that you’ll only get to enjoy for a few short months. I’m hoping we’ve come up with a perfect balance between the two!
Erlene says
Wow that’s amazing! I’ll have to show my hubby your table and maybe get him motivated. Thanks for sharing this on Merry Monday.
