Happy weekend friends!!!
I know, I know … it’s been absolute crickets around here these last couple of weeks. Though it’s been ages since I’ve had the time to sit down and actually write something, I’ve been tackling all sorts of Christmas projects around the house! But, surprise, surprise – it seems I’ve got more ideas than time! I wish so much that I could share each and every project that I’ve been working on, but to be perfectly honest, I’m really struggling to find the time to do it ALL (I’m thinking more than a few of you can relate!). Not only are we enjoying the magic of the season in a whole new way with our little guy, but we’ve got BIG changes (I mean our lives will never be the same big (and no I’m not pregnant!) – you can put brackets inside of brackets, right? #Ijustmighthaveaproblem) happening behind the scenes, which I’m hoping to share with y’all soon! So, through what I can only describe as the busiest time of my life pretty much EVER, I’m going to post what and when I can and (somehow) resign myself to the fact that, if I really want to enjoy this special time of year with my family, I just won’t be able to share ALL of these fab ideas I have swirling around in my head (this year anyway)! I do have a ton of Christmassy (not a word … really spellcheck?!) projects planned, so be sure to follow along with me on Instagram or Facebook to see what I’m up to!
Anyway, making the most of our time, right?! Let’s get on with the show then! I’m SUPER excited to share these cute little Felted Acorn Ornaments with y’all today!!!
You may remember this pretty Felted Acorn Garland I made for my mantel this Fall, which just happens to be among my most favorite projects ever! I knew as I was making it that I just HAD to make a few extra acorns to hang as ornaments on our Christmas tree this year!
You won’t believe how easy the “felting” process actually was! I set up two bowls of warm water, one with a couple of drops of dish soap and one without.
I pulled off a piece of the wool roving and just bunched it into a loose ball – it didn’t take too long to figure out how much I needed to make just the right sized bottoms for my little acorns. I used lengths of 100% wool yarn for some and wool roving for others. I dipped my ball of yarn into the soapy water and rolled and rolled (and rolled and rolled and rolled) until it was all “felted” together.
Working with the same colours as my Rustic Yarn Bow Garland, I rolled up a few balls to make my acorns.
Now, it’s time to turn these babies into acorns! I drilled two small holes through the top of my acorns giving me a way to add some string to hang them with.
And, after tying a loop of jute through as a hanger, I simply hot-glued my little felt balls into the acorn tops.
I think I might just love these little guys even more than my pretty Fall garland!
These sweet little acorns are most definitely among my favorite handmade ornaments on my tree!!! In fact, I loved them SO much, I sent a few to my new bloggy friend (and fellow #CanadianBlogger) Jill at JST Design as part of a super fun handmade ornament swap – shameless plug: if you haven’t discovered this fabulous blog, pop on over now … you won’t be sorry!!! I couldn’t believe the beautiful ornament that she made for our tree! Watch for a tutorial coming this week on her blog!!!
Thank you SO much for stopping by! Wishing you SUCH a fabulous weekend!!!
